The Shark and the Stingray.
The Southern Cross and the Two Pointers.
The night sky contains many legends and stories. There are the "Sky people" and the Animal spirits everywhere in the stars above our heads...
To the Ngarrindjeri people, of coastal South Australia, the Southern Cross represents "Nunganari" (the Stingray) that is being chased by "Ngarakani" (the shark) in fact two Ngarakani.....
The Stingray is chased by the two sharks (the two pointers, bright stars next to the cross) around the sky each night. To these people the shark is a sacred totem animal.
The Southern Cross is just right of centre, in the picture, the two sharks are the very bright stars on the left (the pointers). Any night if you check the position of the cross then "Re-Check" it a few hours later, you will notice it has rotated clockwise in the time you where away.... and the chase continues....
